Detox your Body and Environment for Health Class

Toxins abound in today’s environment.  Most are untested as to their health effects.  Many unfortunately have been found to be carcinogenic or hormone disrupting which has serious cascading effects.

Our bodies understand that these foreign chemicals are harmful and have their own process to sequester them away in our bodies to reduce harm.  It places them “safely” away in our fat stores.

Unfortunately one of the unintended consequences of weight/fat loss is the release of these toxins into our bloodstream where they are now free to cause havoc.  One way to deal with them is to make sure you drink your 64+ ounces of water each day to flush them away.

Household cleaners are typically filled with toxic chemicals.  These can be changed out with non-toxic cleaners, using vinegar and essential oils.  Speaking of Essential oils they can also be used for healthy air freshener sprays too.  We absolutely love them.  We buy the NOW brand of essential oils.  You can find them in your health food store or Amazon.com.

Another source of toxins are in the out gassing of  home products – things like carpet, floor coverings, and paint.  We specifically chose to work with Castro Valley Painting (www.castrovalleypainting.com) because they seemed to be so knowledgeable about this.  We’d definitely recommend them.  They painted our home and your guest room (if you stay with us) with Benjamin Moore Natura No VOC paint.  VOCs are Volatile Organic Compounds that out gas.  We consider the air quality in our environment to be very important and actively make choices to ensure it is healthy.

When you realize how many chemicals there are around us and the potential for harm that they pose it can be a bit overwhelming.  It doesn’t have to be though. We’ll be having a class to help you learn about them, not freak out about them, because you’ll also learn how to deal with them by reducing them, finding alternatives, and how to best release them from your body.

Detox Class – Saturday, May 16 at 10 am – 11:30am

Ahhhh – Essential Oils

lemon-essential oil RFEssential Oils are amazing.  No, we don’t sell them, but we sure do buy them! We didn’t know anything about them a few years ago and now we wouldn’t go a day without using them in some way.

It started with Bug Spray!  You know when you are camping and it’s about dusk and the mosquitoes come out?  Well, they seem to love me (Jess) and I had always used some nasty smelling, chemical spray that I didn’t like and felt like it couldn’t quite possibly be good for me.

We were camping with friends and lucky for me our new friend we were camping with had brought her own Bug Spray that she made herself from Essential Oils.  It actually smelled good!  It actually worked!  I was amazed.  It definitely opened the door for me to the wonders of Essential Oils.

I use them to clean, for air fresheners, in home made bath salts, as deodorant, when we’re feeling like we’re getting sick, and lots more.  As I said above, we don’t sell them but you can find them in your health food store or online easy enough.   I know there are some high priced brands out there but we use NOW Essential Oils.  I think they are high quality and a good price.

We’ll be having an Essential Oil Class so that you can learn how to incorporate them into your life too.  Join us for it and leave a little extra time to tour our garden and relax.

Essential Oil Class – Saturday, March 14, 10 am – 11:30

Landscaping with California Natives Class

Our eyes were really opened up when we started learning about California Native plants and how we can do our own landscaping with them.  There are such a wonderful variety of colors and textures to choose from and whatever your soil and weather conditions you can create a wonderful, drought tolerant, sustainable garden with them.

Once established California Natives do not need watering, except possibly during EXTREME drought conditions for your area.  They are native!  No one, but Mother Nature has been watering them for eons!

Selecting the right plants that work together for soil conditions, color, and texture is definitely science but it’s the Art of Landscaping with Natives that is amazing.  It takes a little research and trial and error, but you too can create your own lovely native landscape.

Creating a beautiful environment, knowing that its a sustainable environment that toxic chemicals are not used, being able to enjoy it without a large time commitment for maintenance, working in harmony with nature…is just Awesome!

Join us for our upcoming Landscaping with California Natives Class

Green Juicing for Health

Making Green JuiceJuicing allows the fiber to be broken down from a plant and removed. The removal of fiber allows you to receive very dense nutrition that your body now doesn’t have to work so hard to release from the fiber.  There definitely is a place for fiber in your diet it just doesn’t need to always be present and when juicing GREENS it is ideal that it isn’t.

It is in juicing high sugar fruits that a problem arises.  Your blood sugar will spike from the sugar surge that happens without fiber.  Eat your fruits whole, or at most blend them to retain the fiber.

We as a society don’t usually drink green juices, so their color can be a little intimidating.  They might look like something that came out of the lawn mower.  Depending on which greens you use they might smell like it too!

Some darker greens are definitely an acquired taste, but you can also enjoy major health benefits from lighter, sweeter greens.  Now, to be sure these “sweeter” greens are NOT sweet.  You can sweeten them a bit with some apple to start out with, or you may find that adding lemon is all you need for a healthy, low carb, yummy green juice.

Our favorite recipe is Green Lemonade (all organic) baby spinach, baby kale, celery, lemon.  No sweeteners needed.

Join us for a green juicing demonstration.  You can watch or join in on the fun.  It is fun too.  My kids love to help out.

Green Juice Demo – Saturday, July 26th at 10 am.

T’ai Chi Chih Class

Tai-Chi-Chih-Class-Push-Pull2-300x199T’ai Chi Chih is a moving meditation that consists of 19 movements and one pose.  It is not a martial art, but is based on the same principles of moving subtle energy.  Practice of T’ai Chih Chih has been shown in clinical studies to improve overall health and sense of well-being.

It is performed with both feet on the ground and can even be modified for a chair.  As a matter of fact, doctors are recommending T.C.C. for their patients that need to work on their balance.

The health benefits of T’ai Chi Chih are definitely profound, but beyond these is the sense of peace, joy and imperturbability that is attained with regular practice.

8 Week Beginning Class: Saturdays, 9 am – 10 am, July 11 – August 29

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Class

EFT Emotional Freedom Technique Tapping TherapyEFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is an Energy Medicine modality that some have likened to “Emotional Accupressure.”  It allows for the release of emotional “blockages” that drain resources from the body and cause physical, mental and emotional disease.

It can be done with a Certified Practitioner or on your own.  You may have heard it called “Tapping”, which gives a good idea of how it’s done.

While a person is tuned in to an emotional issue, they tap on energy meridians and talk through the issue.  Some will feel a surge of energy release, for others it’s much more subtle.

While some simple issues may be resolved quickly, more complex issues require more work by addressing aspects of the issue.  Lifelong phobias which may seem to be impossible to move are actually some of the most easy to deal with.  Each issue will require exploration, but relief is possible.

Not just for those experiencing illness, EFT is very helpful for healthy, successful people who are looking to take their lives and businesses to the next level. Release any last emotional “brakes”, instill positive belief and create forward momentum.
